Seattle Central College has an opening for a full-time, tenure-track Mathematics instructor in the STEM-Business division. Primary teaching responsibilities include pre-college and college level math, applied math, and statistics courses, depending on division needs and instructor's background. The math department supports the use of a variety of instructional modalities, such as hybrid and online, and extensive use of technology.

This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning Fall quarter 2020 (or Winter 2021), in the STEM-Business division of Seattle Central College.

    Notice to Applicants:
    Please note that Seattle Colleges has moved to remote operations, pending public health guidance.     Candidates are required to teach pre-college and college level math, applied math, and statistics courses in an array of modalities such as in-class, hybrid, and online. Class times vary and may include days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs.

    This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle and is subject to union shop provisions.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Instruction:

    1. Instruct a racially and culturally diverse student population that spans a broad range of languages, identities, socio-economic levels, and educational experiences.
    2. Use various methods and modalities of instruction to promote successful learning and educational goal attainment.
    3. Teach a variety of courses: pre-college and college level math, applied math, and statistics.

    Partnerships:
    1. Mentor students and serve as a peer resource for faculty and staff.
    2. Serve on department, division, college, or district-wide committees and be actively involved in institutional initiatives.

    Collaboration:
    1. Work with colleagues to advance the Mathematics program within the college.
    2. Collaborate with other faculty to implement the program schedule.

    Innovative Professional Development:
    1. Conduct ongoing curriculum development, assessment, and revision that promotes effective learning and maintains rigor.
    2. Engage in professional development activities.
    3. Stay current in trends in mathematics education and technology.

    The following is an excerpt from the collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle:
    Meet all professional obligations and all other provisions of the collective bargaining agreement and college and division policies including, but not restricted to: teaching assigned classes at the times and places scheduled; notifying and making provision for instruction with unit administrator in case of anticipated absence; maintaining office hours; submitting student grades and course syllabi within established timelines; abiding by published examination schedules; updating course content, student assignments and activities consistent with master course outline; stay current in areas of assignment and in teaching techniques; respond to work related communications when requested; and provide learning management system access to technical support staff and unit administrator as needed.     REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES:
    Required Education, Experience & Abilities


    1. Education: Graduate degree in Mathematics OR in a closely related discipline that includes upper division and/or graduate level mathematics coursework.
    2. Teaching: Ability to effectively provide high-quality innovative instruction in pre-college and college level math, applied math, and/or statistics in highly diverse settings
    3. Communication: Ability to communicate with students, faculty, and staff in a way that supports Seattle Central College's goal of Student Success. See the LINK for an overview of the college's strategic plan.
    4. Collaboration: A history of working cooperatively with colleagues, teams, and other stakeholders to create a positive, caring and welcoming environment that supports educational growth and community building.
    5. Curriculum: Ability to create or modify curriculum that supports highly diverse student populations and utilizes a variety of active learning strategies, modalities, instructional technologies, and teaching methods.
